STEP-BY-STEP
FOR YOU READERS OUT THERE, HERE’S A STEP-BY-STEP
DOWNLOAD GAME INSTRUCTIONS
Click this image to download more detailed instructions that include Twist and Goal Cards along with a competitive way to play.
With the standard SPARK game, you’ll enjoy endless hours of fun, adventure, and intrigue as you combine spark cards (story prompts) with our music app. At it’s most basic level, this game is about music-inspired improv storytelling.
HERE’S THE MOST BASIC WAY TO PLAY THE GAME:
Until you get the hang of music-inspired stories, we recommend starting with timed stories. You can select 60, 90, or 120 second stories.
STEP 1: CHOOSE ROLES
Designate the Music Master (the player who will control the music) and who will be the first Storyteller..
STEP 2: STORYTELLER DRAWS CARDS
The storyteller draws a plot card and three object cards.
STEP 3: MUSIC MASTER PLAYS MUSIC
The Music Master starts the music by selecting a genre of his/her choosing as recommended by icons on the Plot Card.
STEP 4: STORYTELLER STARTS
The storyteller hears the music and begins to narrate a story, including the plot and objects in front of them.
STEP 5: MUSIC MASTER CHANGES MUSIC UP!
Once the storyteller finds his/her groove, the Music Master can change the music at any point in the story and send the storyteller down totally different directions.
STEP 7: THE STORY ENDS
There are two ways for a story to end:
TAP OUT: The story ends when your storyteller goes as far as they can go.
TIME OUT: If you’re playing timed stories (see Timed Stories feature in the app), the story ends when the timer buzzes.
STEP 8: CONTINUE TO NEXT STORYTELLER
Rotate the Storyteller and Music Master so everyone gets a turn to play the music and tell a story. Each storyteller draws new Plot and Object Cards and can pick up where the last storyteller left off, or start an entirely new story.

STEP FOUR
MUSIC & PLOT CARDS
LEARN HOW THE MUSIC APP WORKS WITH PLOT CARDS
After the storyteller pulls a random Plot Card, the Music Master (the person controlling the music) can start with a recommended genre that best matches the plot. After the music starts and the story begins, all bets are off. As the storyteller begins telling a story, the Music Master can switch genres randomly, taking the storyteller down unexpected adventures.
Be prepared to laugh, cry, and sit on the edge of your seat in awe of the stories you’ll hear.
This short video explores how music shapes the tone and direction of the stories you tell.
AS YOU COMBINE OUR SPARK CARDS WITH MUSIC FROM OUR APP, YOU’LL DISCOVER INFINITE STORYTELLING POSSIBILITIES.
